Women's Basketball earns season sweep over UW-Stevens Point
A strong second-half by the UW-Platteville women’s basketball team propelled the Pioneers past UW-Stevens Point, 75-67, earning the Pioneers first sweep of UWSP for the first time since 1995, on Wednesday night on Bo Ryan Court.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – A strong second-half by the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team propelled the Pioneers past UW-Stevens Point, 75-67, earning the Pioneers first sweep of UWSP for the first time since 1995, on Wednesday night on Bo Ryan Court.
The Pioneers shot a season best 69.6 percent (16-23) in the second half. Juniors Stacy Clark and Alyssa Krajco combined to score 35 of the Pioneers 43 second period points. Clark ended her night with a game-high 17 points, while Krajco added 16 points. Junior Rachel Cropp kept the Pioneers in the game in the first half as she scored 14 of her 16 points in the opening half.
Jamie Destache led the Pointers with 15 points off the bench, while Allie Miceli added 12 bench points. Lauren Anklam and Myranda Tyler each netted 11 points.
The Pointers managed to earn a 10-point lead, 23-13, midway through the first-half. The Pioneers finished the last five and a half minutes of the half the best they have done all season, ending the period on a 12-4 run, to trail UWSP by one at the break, 33-32.
The Pioneers took their first lead of the game, 45-43, with 14:06 left to play. After six lead changes midway through the second half, Clark took control of the game in the final five minutes, scoring nine of the Pioneers' 14 points down the stretch. UW-Platteville took its largest lead of the game of 10 points, 74-64, with 46 seconds left to play.
The Pioneers will end the regular season on a road as they travel to UW-Stout on Saturday and then to UW-Eau Claire and UW-River Falls next week. The Pioneers and the Blue Devils tip off at 3 p.m. and will be televised live on Fox Sports Wisconsin and Fox Sports North.
