Blue Devils setback Women's Basketball
The UW-Platteville women's basketball team fell to UW-Stout, 76-65, Saturday on Bo Ryan Court.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team fell to UW-Stout, 76-65, Saturday on Bo Ryan Court.
The Pioneers were led by junior Alyssa Krajco, who scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Senior Melissa Carmody netted 15 points and recorded five defensive boards. Junior Stacy Clark tallied nine points and nine rebounds with six boards coming on the offensive end.
The Blue Devils' Sami Schoeder led the way with 17 points followed by Katelynne Folkers and Kyleigh Hebert with 14 apiece. Folkers also grabbed 13 of the team's 32 defensive rebounds.
The Pioneers started out slow but managed to take a 9-5 lead at the 15:43 mark. Then with it all knotted up at 12-12, the Pioneers went on a five minute scoring drought as Stout took a 22-15 lead with just under seven minutes left in the half. With seven turnovers in the final six minutes of the half, UW-Platteville fell behind 35-28 at the break. The Pioneers ended the first half with 18 turnovers and the Blue Devils took advantage, scoring 16 of their 35 points of turnovers.
The Pioneers played cleaner in the second half but couldn't seem to make a big enough run and never got within two possessions of UW-Stout. UW-Platteville found some momentum midway through the half, as the Pioneers scored six unanswered to cut their deficit to seven points, 57-50, with 7:13 to go. UW-Stout stopped the run and pushed their lead back to double figures, 64-52, a minute and a half later. The seven-point margin with seven minutes to go was as close as the Pioneers would get, falling 76-65.
UW-Platteville moves to 8-6 and 2-3 in WIAC play, while UW-Stout goes to 6-9 and 2-4 in league action.
The Pioneers hosts UW-Whitewater on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and will be televised live on Fox Sports Wisconsin.
