Yellowjackets sting Pioneer Women's Basketball
The UW-Platteville women’s basketball had its four-game winning streak snapped at UW-Superior on Saturday, when the Pioneers fell to the Yellowjackets, 61-47, at Mertz Mortorelli Gym.
SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball had its four-game winning streak snapped at UW-Superior on Saturday, when the Pioneers fell to the Yellowjackets, 61-47.
Junior Stacy Clark led the Pioneers with a game-high 16 points and added seven rebounds. Senior Melissa Carmody was the only other Pioneer to score in double digits with 11 points, while junior Keeley Schulz added seven points.
UW-Superior's Sally Linzmeier recorded a double-double with 13 points with 19 rebounds, followed by Britnee Blake and Brynn Liljander, who each scored 11 points apiece.
The Yellowjackets controlled the paint in the first half, out rebounding the Pioneers 25-14 and out scoring 12-4 in the paint. UW-Platteville didn't score in the final three minutes as the Yellowjackets took a 30-22 lead into halftime.
The Pioneers couldn't seem to get things going in the second half as UW-Superior took its largest lead of the day, 44-28, with 12:47 left to play. UW-Platteville weren't able to make a run and never brought its deficit under 10 points.
The Pioneers move to 8-5 and 2-2 in conference play, while the Yellowjackets improve to 7-4 and 1-2 in league action.
UW-Platteville return to Bo Ryan Court on Saturday, January 11 at 7 p.m. against UW-Stout.
