Krajco leads Pioneers past UW-River Falls

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Alyssa Krajco led all scorers with 28 points, as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team downed the UW-River Falls Falcons, 84-67, Saturday on Bo Ryan Court.
Junior Krajco was 13-18 from the floor and added a game-high nine rebounds. Fellow junior Stacy Clark recorded 18 points and six boards.
UWRF's Hailey Siegle led the team with 17 points, while Hannah Pignato added 13 points off the bench.
The Pioneers had a consistent night, shooting 51.6 percent (16-31) in the first half and then 51.5 percent (17-33) in the second. Even though the Falcons out rebounded the Pioneers 40-35, UW-Platteville scored UWRF 36-16 in the paint.
The Pioneers fell behind early, 13-8, but a 18-4 run gave UW-Platteville a 26-17 lead with just over six minutes left in the half. The Pioneers managed to take a 11-point lead at the break, 36-25.
UW-Platteville tried to pull away early in the second half as Krajco and Clark scored seven of the Pioneers' first nine points, 45-31. The Falcons counter and cut their deficit to nine, 56-47, with 11:53 to play. The Pioneers responded with a 11-2 run, taking a commanding 67-49 lead with nine minutes left. UWRF never got its deficit back to single digits as the Pioneers went on to win 84-67.
UW-Platteville (5-4, 1-1 WIAC) returns to Bo Ryan Court on Wednesday when the Pioneers host UW-Eau Claire at 7 p.m.
