Pioneers tripped up by Titans, 62-52
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The UW-Platteville women's basketball team was tripped up by UW-Oshkosh, 62-52, on Wednesday night in Williams Fieldhouse on Bo Ryan Court.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team was tripped up by UW-Oshkosh, 62-52, on Wednesday night in Williams Fieldhouse on Bo Ryan Court.
Junior Melissa Carmody led the Pioneers (5-14, 1-9 WIAC) tying a career-high six field goals for 15 points, while grabbing a career-best six rebound. Sophomore Alyssa Krajco had a near perfect night going 7-9 from the field for 14 points. Senior Claire Poad hauled a game-high eight rebounds to go with her 11 points.
Megan Wenig scored a game-high 16 for the Titans (15-3, 7-2 WIAC), while Sarah Stecker recorded 14 points and seven boards.
The Pioneers managed to earn a five-point lead, 15-10, with just under 10 minutes left in the half on Elizabeth Lawinger's layup. A trio of three-pointers in two and a half minutes by the Titans gave UWO a 21-19 lead. The Pioneers could only muster two points in the final two minutes of the half as UW-Oshkosh took a 34-31 lead into halftime.
After UWO's Heather Conroy opened the second-half with a layup, UW-Platteville scored six unanswered taking a 37-36 lead with 15:14 left to play. The Pioneers' lead was short lived as the Titans went on a 13-2 run, earning a 49-39 advantage at the 8:47 mark. The Pioneers battled back but weren't able to get within two possessions as the Titans took home the 62-52 victory.
UW-Platteville welcomes UW-River Falls as well as its alumni for Alumni Day on Saturday. Tip is set for 5 p.m. on Bo Ryan Court.
