Women's Basketball Setback by UW-Superior, 71-64

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team was setback by UW-Superior, 71-64, on Saturday afternoon in the Williams Fieldhouse on Bo Ryan Court.
The Pioneers' senior Elizabeth Lawinger tied a season-best and scored a game-high 22 points to go with her four assists and three steals. Alyssa Krajco and Claire Poad each netted 10 points and Krajco grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Sally Linzmeier registered 18 points for the Yellowjackets, followed by Kristen Nett's 14 points.
The Pioneers took a quick 8-3 lead, which ended up being their largest lead at the 17:06 mark. The Yellowjackets went on a 9-2 run, taking a 12-10 advantage with 12:15 left in the first. In the next ten minutes, there were five ties and four lead changes, but UW-Superior managed to take a five-point lead, 32-27, lead into halftime.
The Pioneers erased their first-half deficit and tied the game up at 40-40 with 13 minutes left to play. UW-Platteville had several opportunities to regain the lead in the final period but couldn't get over the hump. Superior took its largest lead of 10 points, 55-45, with 7:25 left, but the Pioneers kept on the Yellowjackets and put it to a three-point game, 58-55, with just over four minutes to play. A steal by Poad and a transition three-pointer by Lawinger put the Pioneers down by two, 64-62, with 1:12 left. Then in the in the final minute, the Yellowjackets scored on their final three possessions, earning the 71-64 victory.
The Pioneers return to action when they travel to No. 17 UW-Whitewater on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
