Women's Basketball Falls at Wartburg

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's fell to Wartburg, 66-51, Saturday afternoon at Waverly, Iowa in Levick Arena.
Senior Elizabeth Lawinger led the Pioneers with nine points and five assists, while fellow senior Claire Poad and junior Kim Wellnitz added eight apiece. Sophomore Alyssa Krajco grabbed a game-high seven boards with five coming from the offensive end and netted six points.
The Knights were led by Abi Weidemann who scored 16 and Alyssa Sager who registered 15 points.
UW-Platteville managed to take a seven point lead, 18-11, with 12:19 left in the first-half. The Knights fought back to tie the game up at 21-21 at the 4:14 mark. Rachel Cropp nailed a three-pointer for her only points of the game to give the Pioneers a 24-21 advantage with less than two minutes left in the half. Wiedemann sank a pair of free throws to cut the Pioneers' lead, 24-23, right before halftime.
A pair of free throws by Weidemann at the 17:20 mark, gave the Knights their first lead of the game since the 14:54 in the first-half. Once Wartburg earned the lead in the second-half they never gave the Pioneers a chance as the Knights took their largest lead of the game of 15 points, 50-35, with 5:54 left in the game. The Pioneers scored five unanswered to cut WC's lead to 10 with 3:12 left to play, but the Knights surged right back and held on to a 66-51 victory.
The Pioneers dropped to 2-2, while the Knights improved to 2-1.
UW-Platteville looks to bounce back quickly as the wrap up its weekend trip in Iowa when they face off with Mt. Mercy on Sunday at 2 p.m.
