Pioneers Falls to UW-La Crosse, 64-57
During a seven-minute stretch of the second half, host University of Wisconsin-La Crosse went on a 24-3 run to take a 54-45 lead on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team. The run propelled the Eagles to a 64-57 win over the Pioneers on Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Gym.
UW-Platteville (8-16, 4-11 WIAC) was led by the 18-point effort from junior Claire Poad and freshman Alyssa Krajco added 10 points off the bench.
UW-La Crosse (16-7, 9-5 WIAC) was led by the 19-point and nine-rebound performance from Kassie Robinson and 18 points from Mallory Cramer.
The Pioneers had built an advantage as much as 12, 42-30 with 10:28 left in the game. UW-Platteville stretched a two-point lead at the halftime break with the first nine points of the second half for a 30-19 lead with 17:50 to go.
The Eagles cut the deficit to four, early in the final 20 minutes, only to see the Pioneers push it back to double digits with a 10-2 spurt. However, UW-La Crosse was resilient and failed to concede as they came back with a 24-3 game-deciding run.
Next, the Pioneers will close out the regular season when they travel to UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m.
