Pioneers Open Competition At WIAC Indoor Championships
STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams opened competition at the 2025 WIAC Indoor Championships (presented by Culver’s) hosted by UW-Stevens Point inside Skyward Fieldhouse on Friday afternoon. After the first day of events, the men’s team is in seventh with 17 points, and the women are sixth with 18.5 points.

After the first day of events, the men's team is in seventh with 17 points, and the women are sixth with 18.5 points.
Men's Highlights
The Pioneers men's distance medley team of Joshua Stone, Owen Wise, Andrew Zimmerman, and Caden Schneider posted a time of 10:19.04 to win the event.
Senior Spencer Vanek led two scorers in the 400m for the Pioneers, placing fourth overall with a time of 49.22 seconds. Senior Zach Zenner also earned the podium finish, taking eighth at 49.70 seconds.
In the shot put, senior Nicholas Walechka reached a mark of 15.10m (49' 6.5") on his first throw of the day. That distance proved to be good enough to finish eighth overall in the event.
Women's Highlights
For the second consecutive week, junior Izzy Peterson broke a UW-Platteville school record, this time in the 60m. Peterson ran a time of 7.67 seconds in the preliminary round to qualify for Saturday's final in the event. Her mark broke the previous record of 7.72 held by Gwen Orr in 2022.
Sophomore Hailey Campbell tied for third place in the high jump to earn 5.5 points for the Pioneers. She reached a height of 1.64m (5' 4.5") to collect the podium finish.
Senior Brenna Noon took third in the women's shot put with a throw of 13.26m (43' 6"). Her best throw of the day came on her opening attempt.
In the 5000m, senior Hannah Fliss scored five points for UW-Platteville after finishing fourth overall with a time of 18:15.78.
The Pioneers distance medley team of Leah Digmann, Kayla Lipsey, Kendra Downing, and Megan Hageman finished seventh with a time of 12:42.17.

The WIAC Championships continue tomorrow morning with the remainder of the field events and the final events of the heptathlon and pentathlon. Running events resume at 1:40 p.m. tomorrow.
