Eichler Captures WIAC Weight Throw Title with Fifth Best Throw in NCAA III History
WHITEWATER, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams competed at the second day of the 2024 WIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by UW-Whitewater on Saturday inside Kachel Fieldhouse.
WHITEWATER, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams competed at the second day of the 2024 WIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by UW-Whitewater on Saturday inside Kachel Fieldhouse.
UW-La Crosse captured its fourth-straight women's championship and its second-straight men's championship with scores of 281.5 team points for the women and 242.5 for the men. UW-Oshkosh took second with 94 points on the women's side and 161 points for the men. The Pioneers finished seventh in both the men's (20 points) and women's (19 points).
Men's Highlights
In his final attempt of the day, senior Justin Eichler's throw of 20.97m (68-09.75) not only won the event and set a new conference record, but it sits fifth on the NCAA DIII All-Time Best list. Eichler's triumph secured 10 team points.
In the 60m final, senior Cade VanHout placed sixth with a time of 6.85 seconds, adding three team points.
Also placing sixth was the men's 4x400m relay. The team of sophomore Alex Geissler, freshman Kaeden Weberpal, sophomore James Ketterer and sophomore Joshua Stone finished with a time of 3:37.12.
Sophomore Caden Schneider finished eighth in the 3000m run with a personal best time of 8:34.93 to score another team point. Senior Caleb Christiansen was just two places behind with a personal best 8:37-91.
Women's Highlights
Freshman Elianna Dalamangas placed fourth in the triple jump, scoring five team points with a personal best mark of 11.23m (36-10.25).
Finishing sixth in the pentathlon was freshman Hailey Campbell with 3169 points.
The women's 4x400m relay team also finished sixth with a season best time of 4:04.48. The team of junior Margaret Rusch, senior Kayla Lipsey, senior Jessica Buss, and Elianna Dalamangas scored three team points.
Post Meet Awards
After events concluded, Dale Yerges and junior Shannon Wulf were named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship teams.
