Pioneer track and field hosts outdoor season opener
Platteville, Wis. – The Pioneers began the 2022 outdoor track and field season hosting the UW-Platteville Opener on Saturday, April 2. Teams in attendance included UW-Whitewater, UW-Stevens Point, Viterbo, UW-Oshkosh, University of Dubuque, and Northern Michigan.

Despite the snowfall, the chilly spring day yielded several personal best marks to start the season. A few of the bright spots in the day included Gwen Orr and Cade VanHout's performances in the 100m dash finals. Orr ran 12.20 seconds, shaving off 0.07 off her school record time. VanHout ran 10.49 seconds with a wind reading of 4.5mph, finishing 0.03 seconds faster that the school record. In the hammer throw, Paulina Wienke threw a lifetime best of 49.05m (160-11) to end the meet in third place.
Next weekend, the Pioneers will travel to UW-La Crosse to compete on Saturday, April 9 at the Ashton May Invitational.

Pioneer Women
Kaitlyn Galgon – Placed second in the 1500m with a time of 4:57.54.
Kirstie Ramsey – Took 4th in the 1500m with a time of 5:00.96. Ramsey also won the 800m with a time of 2:28.10.
Gwen Orr – Won the 200m with a time of 25.17 seconds.
Lizzie Andrews – Triple jumped an outdoor personal best of 10.33m (33-10.75).
Shannon Wulf – Long jumped a personal best of 5.03m (16-6).
Grace Elvert – Threw a lifetime best mark of 30.27m (99-3.75) in the javelin. Elvert also took third in the 100m hurdles, running 16.28 seconds.
Grace Daehling – Threw a lifetime best mark of 28.57m (93-8.75) in the javelin.
Brianna Leahy – Won the shot put with a mark of 14.15m (46-5).
Pioneer Men
Cole Stugelmeyer – Won the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.62 seconds.
Zach Zenner – Won the 400m dash with a time of 50.29 seconds.
Cade VanHout – Won the 200m dash with a personal best time of 21.74 seconds.
Caleb Christiansen – Won the 5,000m run with a time of 15:27.10.
Bryce Bierman and Daniel Inyang – Finished in first and third place respectively in the high jump, both clearing 2.00m (6-6.75).
Jarrod Vis – Won the pole vault with a personal best clearance of 4.43m (14-6.5).
Alex Girard –Won the discus with a mark of 45.95m (150-9).
Jacob Rice – Won javelin with a throw of 52.38m (171-10.25).
Owen Miller – Long jumped a personal best mark of 6.74m (22-1.25).
