Leahy and VanHout take home All-American honors
Winston-Salem, N.C. - On day two of the NCAA DIII Indoor Track and Field Championships, two Pioneers capitalized and brought home All-American honor hardware. Brianna Leahy finished in second place in the women's shot put, and Cade VanHout ran for seventh place in the men's 60m dash.
Winston-Salem, N.C. - On day two of the NCAA DIII Indoor Track and Field Championships, two Pioneers capitalized and brought home All-American honor hardware. Brianna Leahy finished in second place in the women's shot put, and Cade VanHout ran for seventh place in the men's 60m dash.
To start day two, the Pioneers competed in women's shot put and men's high jump. Senior Brianna Leahy threw a new personal best, school record mark of 14.91m (48-11) to come in second place to UW-La Crosse's Skye Digman. Two other women from the WIAC finished among the top eight in the event, Catie Fobbe of UW-Eau Claire and Mackenzie Huber of UW-Stout. Leahy earned her career's first All-American honors and scored 8 points for the UW-Platteville women's team score.
Freshman teammate Brenna Noon finished in 11th place in the shot put with a throw measuring 13.37m (43-10.5). Bryce Bierman ended high jump in 15th place, clearing 2.00m (6-6.75).
In the heptathlon, Jacob Rice contested the 60m hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000m run on day two. Rice ran 8.73 seconds in the 60m hurdles. In pole vault, he cleared 3.90m, roughly four centimeters away from his personal best. Lastly, he ran the 1,000m in 3:00.23. The senior scored 4,589 points across the two-day heptathlon event.
The final Pioneer to compete for the day was junior Cade VanHout. He crossed the finish line of the 60m dash finals in 6.91 seconds. Earning his career's first All-American honors and scoring 2 points for the UW-Platteville men's team score, VanHout finished in seventh place.
Among women's team scores, Loras College won the team national title and UW-La Crosse took second. After a protest in the men's 4x400m relay, UW-Eau Claire and Washington University men's teams tied for the national title. More results can be found at deltatiming.com.
WIth the conclusion of the 2022 indoor track and field season, the Pioneers look forward to the promise of the outdoor season which will begin with the Pioneer Open on Saturday, April 2.
