VanHout advances to 60m dash finals
Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Pioneers began day one of the NCAA DIII Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, March 11 at JDL FastTrack. Five student-athletes from UW-Platteville competed on this first day of competition, highlighted by Cade VanHout advancing to the finals of the 60m dash.
Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Pioneers began day one of the NCAA DIII Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, March 11 at JDL FastTrack. Five student-athletes from UW-Platteville competed on this first day of competition, highlighted by Cade VanHout advancing to the finals of the 60m dash.
The junior from Green Bay, Wisconsin, Cade VanHout advanced to the finals of the 60m dash. VanHout ran 6.84 seconds and has the sixth fastest time going into the finals to be run on Saturday. Senior Gwen Orr placed 12th in the 60m dash, running a personal best time and school record time of 7.72 seconds. In the 200m dash, Orr ran 25.47 seconds to take 11th place.
The two multi student-athletes, senior Jacob Rice and junior Grace Elvert began the heptathlon and pentathlon, respectively. Rice, competing in the first event of the heptathlon, the 60m dash, ran 7.25 seconds. In the long jump he marked 6.04m (19-9.75), and in the shot put he threw 12.23m (40-1.5). Finishing day one of the heptathlon, Rice cleared 1.67m (5-5.75) in the high jump. Rice ended day one with 2,531 points and sits currently in 16th place. On day two of the heptathlon, Rice will compete in the 60m hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000m run.
Elvert finished in 14th place overall in the pentathlon, scoring 3,153 points in the five events (60m hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump, and 800m run). Elvert ran 9.61 seconds in the 60m hurdles. She high jumped 1.60m (5-3) to tie her personal best, and threw a personal best of 10.64m (34-11) in the shot put. In long jump, Elvert marked a jump of 5.00m. To finish the pentathlon, she ran 2:46.56 in the 800m.
Senior Alex Girard threw the weight throw to finish day one for the Pioneers. Girard marked a throw of 17.05m (55-11.25), which placed him 17th among the top 20 weight throwers in the NCAA DIII.
On Saturday, the Pioneers will begin competition at 11 a.m. EST. with Bryce Bierman in the men's high jump, as well as Brianna Leahy and Brenna Noon in the women's shot put.
