Pioneers execute day two of WIAC Indoor Championships
Platteville, Wis. – Day two of the 2022 WIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships produced a conference champion, and several All-Conference honors for the Pioneers.
Platteville, Wis. – Day two of the 2022 WIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships produced a conference champion, and several All-Conference honors for the Pioneers. In overall team scores, both the Pioneer men and women placed fifth. The Pioneer women scored 52 points, beating UW-Stevens Point (32), UW-Whitewater (31), and UW-River Falls (29). The Pioneer men scored 56.67 points, beating UW-Stout (56), UW-Stevens Point (33.50) and UW-River Falls (2).
Gwen Orr became the champion in the 60m dash with a new personal best, school record time of 7.73 seconds. Orr's time ties the seventh fastest time in NCAA DIII so far this season. She was runner up in the 200m dash, running 25.32 – also a personal best, school record time. Orr ranks ninth in the country currently in the 200m dash.
Bryce Bierman and Daniel Inyang tied for second place in the high jump along with Wes Keller from UW-Eau Claire. They all cleared 2.00m (6-6.75) with no misses until 2.05m (6-8.75). For Inyang, this was a personal best clearance.
Jacob Rice executed his mission in the heptathlon, finishing in second over the two-day event comprised of 7 events. Rice scored 4,875 points which ranks him in the top 10 in NCAA DIII currently. On day two, he ran 8.55 seconds in the 60m hurdles, pole vaulted 3.94m (12-11), and ran 2:54.55 in the 1000m.
Grace Elvert soared to third place in the pentathlon. Of the 5 events that make up the pentathlon, Elvert saw personal bests in all 5. She ran 9.42 seconds in the 60m hurdles, high jumped 1.62m (5-3.75), shot putted 10.40m (34-1.5), long jumped 5.24m (17-2.25), and ran 2:42.14 in the 800m. Elvert's score of 3,314 points ranks her ninth in NCAA DIII.
Cade VanHout took third place in the 60m dash with a time of 6.83 seconds. VanHout tied the eighth fastest time in the nation, improving on his school record time. He also finished in ninth place with a personal best time of 22.31 seconds in the 200m dash.
In the men's weight throw, Alex Girard took third place with a personal best toss of 18.23m (59-9.75). Girard ranks 13th in the nation.

Pioneer Men Highlights
60m Hurdles – Cole Stugelmeyer finished in sixth place with a personal best time of 8.42 seconds.
Weight Throw – Ben Veverka took fifth place with a mark of 17.55m (57-7).
4x400m Relay – The team of Jacob Downing, Zach Zenner, Spencer Vanek, and Cade VanHout ran 3:20.45 to place fourth. The relay is 16th in national rankings for NCAA DIII.
Pioneer Women Highlights
Triple Jump – Kelli Schneider jumped a lifetime best of 11.22m (36-9.75) to finish in sixth place.
800m – Kaitlyn Galgon ran 2:19.36 taking sixth place. Kirstie Ramsey ran a personal best of 2:20.88 to place eighth. Also running a personal best, Jessica Buss clocked in at 2:26.03.
4x400m Relay – The team comprised of Buss, Ramsey, Galgon, and Lindsey Barnes ran 4:12.45, placing seventh.
