Pioneers host Day 1 of WIAC Indoor Championships
Platteville, Wis. - Williams Fieldhouse came alive on day one of the 2022 WIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The eight conference colleges met together to contest the indoor conference championship for the first time since the 2020 indoor season. The energy was almost tangible. Pioneer Men Highlights
Shot Put – Ben Veverka and Justin Eichler scored a combination of 5 points for the Pioneers. Veverka placed fifth throwing 14.79m (48-6.25) and Eichler placed eighth with 14.54m (47-8.5).
400m Dash – Freshman Zach Zenner placed seventh with a time of 49.92 seconds. He scored 2 points for the Pioneers.
60m Hurdles – Advancing to Saturday's final heat of the 60m hurdles, Cole Stugelmeyer ran 8.46 seconds.
60m Dash – Also advancing to finals, Cade VanHout ran 6.84 seconds to tie his school record time.
Heptathlon – On day one of the heptathlon, comprised of 7 events, Jacob Rice ran 7.15 seconds in the 60m dash, jumped 6.39m (20-11.5), threw the shot put 12.20m (40-0.25), and finished the day with 1.75m (5-8.75) high jump. Day two will include 60m hurdles, pole vault, and 1000m run for the multi athletes.
Distance Medley Relay – The team of Tyler Doering, Jason Voelker, Xavier Lasee, and Dylan Miller ran 10:41.40 to take sixth place, scoring 3 more points for the Pioneers. The relay is comprised 4 different distances for each leg of the race, 1200m, 400m, 800m and 1600m.
Pioneer Women Highlights
Shot Put – Brianna Leahy scored 8 points taking second place with a throw of 14.21m (46-7.5) Freshman Brenna Noon threw 13.10m (42-11.75) to place fourth, scoring 5 points for the Pioneers.
Pole Vault – Senior Jordan Meciej scored the Pioneers 3 points tying for fifth place in the pole vault. She jumped 3.42m (11-2.75).
Long Jump – Alexis Healey jumped a lifetime best mark of 5.21m (17-1.25) to take 11th place.
60m Hurdles – Kayla Lipsey ran a lifetime best time of 9.84 seconds, breaking 10 seconds for the first time ever. She placed 14th overall.
60m Dash – Advancing to the finals for the Pioneer Women, Gwen Orr ran 7.76 seconds. The time separating first and fifth ranked women in the final heat is a mere 0.04 seconds.
Distance Medley Relay – The team of Caitlin Gorge, Kirstie Ramsey, Jessica Buss, and Lindsey Barnes ran 12.48.51 to sneak into sixth place. The women scored 3 points for the Pioneers.
