Little did the Pioneers know how unique of a treasured celebration that day would be. In light of the track and field season coming to an abrupt, early end, we will continue to highlight the senior class throughout the spring semester. In this week's edition, we honor track and field athletes Cassandra Meyer, Brianna Hall, Rachel Beuthin, Murphy Bleymeyer, and Morgan Talbot.
Cassandra Meyer
Meyer came to UW-Platteville from Medford, Wisconsin. A long way from home, she is finalizing her degree in industrial technology management and occupational safety. After graduation Meyer plans on working as a safety director at a company in Wisconsin. In her freshman year, Meyer competed in three events; the 400-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and javelin throw. Throughout her sophomore year Meyer began to train for the pentathlon and heptathlon, expanding her limits to several other events. At the 2019 WIAC Outdoor Championships hosted at UW-Platteville, Meyer placed 11th in the heptathlon with a personal best 3,312 points. Most recently at the 2020 WIAC Indoor Championships, Meyer took 12th in the pentathlon with a personal best 2,557 points. Her dedication and kind leadership has a ripple effect on the entire team.

She competed in all the throwing events; shot put, weight throw, discus, hammer throw, and javelin. At the 2020 WIAC Indoor Championships Brianna placed 6th in the shot put. This was her highest finishing place at the WIAC indoor championships after having qualified all four years in the shot put. Some of her fondest track and field memories come from qualifying to the 2019 NCAA DIII Indoor Championships in Boston and competing in the rain at Washington University in 2019. Hall plans on graduating in December of 2020. Her name appears five times on the Pioneer All-Time Top Ten List; No. 2 indoor shot put, No. 6 weight throw, No. 2 outdoor shot put, No. 4 discus, and No. 8 hammer throw.
Rachel Beuthin
Originally from Mazomanie, Wisconsin, Beuthin is earning her degree in animal science with a creative writing minor. Qualifying to five national championships in the event, her core event became the shot put. She finished in 10th place in the shot put at the 2018 NCAA DIII Indoor Championships and the 2019 NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships. Beuthin holds the school records in the indoor shot put (14.11m, 46-3.5) and outdoor shot put (13.81m, 45-3.75). She also appears on the Pioneer All-Time Top Ten List as No. 2 in the weight throw and discus, and No. 3 in the hammer throw.
Murphy Bleymeyer
Bleymeyer came to the University of Wisconsin – Platteville from Dubuque, Iowa. She is majoring in psychology with a criminal justice minor. Following graduation, Bleymeyer plans on earning her Master of Social Work degree at Clarke College. In the 2019 outdoor track and field season, Bleymeyer saw lifetime best throws in the hammer throw (41.87m, 137-4) and discus (38.60m, 126-8). In the 2020 indoor season she qualified to the WIAC Indoor Championships in the shot put and weight throw. In her last season with the Pioneers, Bleymeyer threw a lifetime best in the weight throw (14.61m, 47-11.25).
Morgan Talbot
A senior from Appleton, Wisconsin, Talbot is majoring in industrial technology management with an industrial controls system minor. The 2020 indoor track and field season was Talbot's first season with the Pioneers. She threw shot put and weight throw, with personal bests early in the indoor season. At the Red Hawk Invitational at Ripon College, Talbot threw 9.89m (32-5.5) in an event she hadn't practiced for more than a few months, the weight throw. Talbot brings to life the encouraging, empowering atmosphere on the track and field team, especially within the throws event group.
The seniors invested in themselves by attending the University of Wisconsin – Platteville. Student-athletes with such determination and passion to succeed have a rich impact on a team. It's hard to predict the impact a college experience can have; it's even harder to communicate in words that same impact in the aftermath. Cass, Rachel, Brianna, Murphy, and Morgan, you are through and through Pioneers. With much gratitude, we send you off and welcome you into the elite club of Pioneer Alumni.
