Four All-Americans named, Zach Lee crowned mile champion on day two

Boston, Mass. – The Pioneers wrapped up day two of the NCAA DIII Indoor Track and Field Championships with four All-Americans named on the men's track and field team, including one champion.

In the men's mile final heat, two seniors from UW-Platteville took home All-American honors. Winning the event with a time of 4:06.22, Zach Lee ran the second fastest mile in school history. Nolan Wallenkamp ran 4:12.07 to take eighth place. This was Wallenkamp's first All-American honors, as well as Lee's first All-American honors in track and field.

Senior Cody Faust scored 5,239 points in the heptathlon to finish in second place. Faust had a personal best time in the 60m hurdles to start the day, running 8.36 seconds. Another personal best mark came during pole vault. Faust cleared 4.75m (15-7) and was the highest vaulter among the heptathlon field. Faust finished the heptathlon running 2:51.33 in the 1,000m run.

Junior Charlie Gifford ran in the finals of the 60m hurdles. Turning out to be a messy race for the eight qualifying men, Gifford ran 11.41 after experiencing a fall near hurdle two during the race. Two other athletes in the heat experienced falls, resulting in a seventh place finish for Gifford. This was Gifford's first national appearance and first time receiving an All-American honor.

Two Pioneer women competed on day two of the championships. Brianna Hall and Rachel Beuthin threw in the women's shot put. Hall threw 12.99m ( 42-7.5) and Beuthin threw 11.79m (38-8.25).

The Pioneer men's track and field team scored 27 points throughout the two-day championship, resulting in a tied fifth place team finish. The Pioneer men tied with Washington University. Taking fourth place, UW-Eau Claire scored 29 points. Tying for second place, Mount Union and UW-La Crosse scored 39 points. Taking home first place team finish for the men's teams, North Central College scored 55 points.

The Pioneers will now turn their eyes to the 2019 outdoor season, with the first competition outdoors scheduled at Washington University on March 29-30.
