LA CROSSE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams had a select few athletes compete at Thursday's UW-La Crosse NCAA Qualifier to either qualify for next week's national meet or improve their existing potential qualifying time.
T.J. Valley led the Pioneers with an impressive 14.52 110-meter hurdles preliminary time, which is seventh best in the country. Valley wrapped up his day winning the finals with a time of 14.53. Patrick Kessenich had a solid day, finishing third with a time of 14.76, but didn't improve his 14th best time in the nation.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Mitchell Dowell, Caleb Mertens, Brandon Navin, and Kessenich won the event with a time of 41.93, but wasn't fast enough to qualify for nationals.
Dan Poh, currently has the 22nd best javelin in the country, tossed 189-feet-11-inch which didn't beat his season-best, but did win Thursday's event. Just like Poh, Emily Kjos won the javelin but her toss of 127-feet-1-inch didn't surpass her season best, which is the 24th best on the national list.
A few Pioneers will have one last chance on Friday to qualify the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships.
