Spangenberg breaks school record in the pole vault in last chance meet
Chas Spangenberg solidifies a spot at NCAA Division III Meet in two weeks while breaking school record

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — Chas Spangenberg, a senior from Appleton, Wis., finished second place in the pole vault with a jump of 16 feet 1 ¾ inches at the Eagle Open at UW-La Crosse in La Crosse, Wis., breaking the school record and solidifying a spot at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Meet.
Emily Kjos, a freshman from Lancaster, Wis., captured first place in the javelin throw, throwing 39 meters.
Jacob Dailey, a senior from Platteville, Wis., placed sixth in the hammer throw, throwing 183 feet and seven inches. "That throw should put Dailey in the top 20 on the national list," said head track and field coach, Chris Rotzenberg.
A few of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers also competed in the Dr. Keeler track and field meet at North Central College in Naperville, Ill.
Lynea Axelson, a junior from Oregon, Ill., competed in the 800 meter run, running a time of 2:14.07.
Matt Ziegler, a senior from Madison, Wis., ran the 400 meter run in a time of 48.31 seconds placing second from a heat separate of the fastest heat. "Ziegler's time is an improvement upon his conference performance," said Rotzenberg.
Jason Henkins, a sophomore from Kewanee, Ill., ran the 800 meter run. Henkins got tripped up in the last 25 meters and finished in a time of 1:56.38.
The men's javelin, sophomore Mark Niemann of Crystal Lake, Ill., captured first place, throwing 197 feet and five inches.
"We had a great day of track and field," said Rotzenberg.
