Pioneers Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Open Successful

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams began their season hosting the UW-Platteville Open on Saturday afternoon.
"This was a quality first meet," said head track and field Coach Chris Rotzenberg. "Our men and women really stepped up and competed well with the competition that was present today.
UW-Platteville women won eight events. Freshman Maria Eberle won the 60-meter dash in 8.29 seconds; Deidre Dillman, a senior from Prairie du Chien,Wis., won the 600-meter run in a time of 1:36.70; Freshman Teagan Seneczko from Hartland, Wis., won the 800-meter run in 2:28.84.
Junior Danielle Kunkel from Cuba City, Wis., destroyed the competition in both the mile in a time of 5:28.67 and the 3,000-meter run in 10.52.36.
The Pioneer women earned the top four spots in the high jump with Whitenall, Wis. native, Caitlin Thomson winning with 1.67 meters.
UW-Platteville women swept both relays and won the 4x400 meter relay in 4:10.23.
"Sticking with UW-Whitewater men today, who are ranked 3rd in NCAA DIII, gives us the confidence we need to be one of the best teams in the country," said Andres Young, assistant Track and Field Coach.
UW-Platteville men's team won eight events. Senior Aaron Hrubes from Madison, Wis., placed first in the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.01 seconds and first in the 200-meter dash in 22.58 seconds.
The combination of youth and experience led to the top five places captured by the Pioneers in the pole vault as Jared Bradfish, a senior from Schofield, Wis., winning with 4.57 meters.
Sophomore Matt Kocak, a Jackson, Minn. native, won the 600-meter run in 1:23.66; Damon Trainor, a senior from Freeport, Ill. won the 800-meter run in 2:02.16; Sophomore Sam Poser won the 5,000-meter run in 15:12.78; and freshman Alex Nagorsen won the men's high jump with a 1.95-meter performance.
The men's weight throw's first and second place went to Seniors Jacob Dailey, from Cuba City, Wis., and Jake Wiederholt, from Fennimore, Wis.
The Pioneers will compete at the UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stevens Point Triangular at UW-Eau Claire Saturday, Jan. 19 at noon.
