UW-Platteville Participates in the Wartburg Outdoor Select
At the Wartburg Outdoor Select, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's and women's track and field teams continued its preparations for the rigorous WIAC Track and Field Championships and to possible secure spots at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in just its second outdoor meet of the season.
On the women's side, Ann Tank made her debut on the outdoor circuit with a second-place finish in the 400-meter run with a time of 57.31. Her performance is the seventh-fastest in the nation to date. Teammate Deidre Dillman was fourth and the 17th fastest performance in the nation in 58.34.
The Pioneers had two individuals who placed third including Danielle Kunkel in the 1,500-meter run (4:47.46) and Carshella Porter in the 200-meter dash in a time (26.53).
Tank, Dillman and Porter teamed up with Jackie Cahill to post the sixth-fastest time in the nation to date and second overall in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:56.01.
On the men's side, T.J. Valley won the 110-meter hurdles (14.82) in the eighth-fastest time in Division III on the season.
Lynn Oyawiri and Casey Goffinet were fifth (11.24) and sixth (11.25), respectively in the 100-meter dash and Matthew Ziegler was fifth in the 400-meter dash (50.35).
Oyawiri and Goffinet teamed up with Aaron Hrubes and Jordan Olp to win the 4x100-meter relay in a time of 42.36. The performance is the 17th-fastest in Division III to date.
In the field events, Josh Vandenbush won the triple jump with a leap of 43-8 ½ (13.32m) and Mark Niemann won the javelin with a toss of (177-4/54.07m). Also, in the javelin, Daniel Poh was third (167-2/50.95m) and Brad Jurewicz was fourth (161-9/49.31m).
Chas Spangenberg posted a second-place finish in the pole vault with a clearance of 15-7 (4.74m) for the 11th-best clearance in NCAA Division III. Ace McCarty was third in the high jump with a clearance of 6-4 (1.93m).
