No. 19 UW-Platteville Men Win Triangular Over UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stevens Point
Aaron Hrubes and Jordan Olp went one-two in the 60-meter dash in a time of 6.94 and 7.12, respectively to lead the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's track and field team at a triangular against league rivals UW-Eau Claire and host UW-Stevens Point.
Matt Smaga led a first through third sweep by the Pioneers in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:39.59 just ahead of teammate Evan Morgan in 16:40.06. T.J. Valley won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.43.
Hrubes, Matthew Ziegler, Patrick Kessenich and Ben Farrell won the 4x400-meter relay in 3:22.93. Finishing second were Lynn Oyawiri in the 200-meter dash (22.86) and Scott Clark in the 3,000-meter run (8:44.06).
In the field events, the Pioneers won three events including Ace McCarty in the high jump (6-8), Josh VandenBush in the triple jump (41-9 ¼) and Chas Spangenberg in the pole vault (15-0). Plus, Jake Wiederholt was second in the shot put with a toss of 49-1 ½.
In a triangular against league rivals UW-Eau Claire and host UW-Stevens Point, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's track and field team was led by Deidre Dillman, who won the 200-meter dash in 27.43 and Steph Dorton, who led a first through third sweep in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 20:06.25.
In addition, Carshella Porter was second in the 60-meter dash (8.13). Both Dillman and Porter were members of the second place 4x400-yard relay along with Natalie Jozik and Keturah Vangen that finished 51 hundredths of a second out of first place.
In the field events, the PIoners got a pair of second-place finishes from Mary Katherine Kladar in the high jump (5-4 ¼) and Jackie Cahill in the triple jump (34-2 ¼).
Next, the Pioneers will travel to the University of Dubuque for the Spartan Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 28.
