No. 19 UW-Platteville Men Win Nine Events and Women Win Seven Events at UW-Platteville Open
The No. 19 University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's track and field team opened its 2011-12 season with the UW-Platteville Open on Saturday. The Pioneers were able to post multiple victories, winning nine events on the afternoon.
Lynn Oyawiri led a first through third sweep in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.03 to lead UW-Platteville. He was followed by Aaron Hrubes, who posted a time of 6.97 in the prelims, and Jordan Olp.
2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship qualifier Ben Farrell won the 400-meter dash in a time of 50.55. Another NCAA qualifier in 2011, both indoors and outdoors, Patrick Klein won the 1,000-meter run in 2:30.71.
Bill Clift and Derek Fahrenkrug were first (8:55.04) and third (8:58.88) in the 3,000-meter run and T.J. Valley won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.34.
The Pioneers won both the 4x200-meter relay (1:31.49) and 4x400-meter relay (3:29.11).
In the field events, Chas Spangenberg led a first through third sweep in the pole vault with a top clearance of 14-6. Jared Bradfish and Matthew Felten were second (14-0) and third (13-0 ¼), respectively.
Jacob Dailey won the shot put (45-7 ¾) and second in the weight throw (49-8 ½). Teammate Jake Wiederholt took second in the shot put with a toss of 44-9. Preston Baker won the long jump with a leap of 20-8 ahead of teammate Evan Buck, who recorded a jump of 20-0 ¼. Josh VandenBush was the winner in the triple jump with a jump of 42-7 ½. Ace McCarty was second in the high jump with a clearance of 6-3 ¼.

The Pioneers' Carshella Porter won the 200-meter dash (27.54) and was second in the 60-meter dash (8.10). Caitlin Thomson was second in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 10.07 and in the high jump with a clearance of 5-3 1/4.
2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship qualifier Deidre Dillman won the 400-meter dash in a time of 59.49. Dillman and the Pioneers won the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 4:12.93.
Jessa Pierce won the 800-meter run by 25-hundredths of a second in a time of 2:36.31.
In the distance events, the Pioneers cruised to victories as Danielle Kunkel, who reached the NCAA Championships in cross country, was victorious by 21-seconds in the mile in a time of 5:22.56. Lisa Kaiser won the 3,000-meter run by 33 seconds in a time of 11:22.34.
In the field events, Mary Katherine Kladar won the high jump with a clearance of 5-3 ¼. Amber Witthuhn won the pole vault, clearing 10-6 ¼. Morgan Hoover was second in the long jump with a leap of 15-3 ¼.
Next, the Pioneers will travel to the UW-Stevens Point Triangular, where they will face WIAC rivals UW-Stevens Point and UW-Eau Claire on Saturday, Jan. 21.
