Pioneers' Men's Track and Field Finish Third at 2011 Wartburg Select
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s track and
field team won the 55-meter dash, 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash
en route to a third-place finish at the 2011 Wartburg Select on
Saturday.
The Pioneers’ Lynn Oyawiri led a one-two
finish for UW-Platteville in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.58.
Teammate Jordan Olp was second in 6.61 and
Tom Drida was fifth in 6.85. Olp was victorious in
the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.71, Oyawiri and Matthew
Zeigler were fourth (23.03) and fifth (23.14),
respectively. Zeigler went on to win the 400-meter dash in 50.74
and Ian Yenter was fifth in 52.80.
Also, on the track, Derek Fahrenkrug was third in
the mile (4:31.14), Brandon Harms was fourth in
the 800-meter run (1:58.65), Aaron Loferski was
fourth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.02) and Damon
Trainer was fifth in the 600-meter run (1:26.18). The
Pioneers’ mile relay team took second in a time of
3:22.92.
In the field events, the Pioneers had a pair of second-place
finishes including Jake Wiederholt in the shot put
with a toss of 49-1 (14.96m) and Jared Bradfish in
the pole vault with a clearance of 14-11 (4.55m).
Teammates Ace McCarty and John
Egan shared third-place honors in the high jump with a
clearance of 6-1 ½ (1.87m) and Chas
Spangenberg was third in the pole vault with a clearance
of 13-11 ¼ (4.25m).
As a team, the Pioneers' finished third with 149.5 points behind
St. Thomas (Minnesota) (181 points) and Wartburg (158 points) and
ahead of Central (123.50 points) and Northern Iowa (10 points).
The Pioneers will next host the UW-Platteville Invitational, where
UW-Stevens Point, UW-Oshkosh, UW Eau Claire, Wartburg, Dubuque,
Loras, Coe and Wisconsin Lutheran, will come to Williams Fieldhouse
on Saturday, February 12th.
