Bio

Roger Schliewe enters his first season with the Pioneers after being named the assistant coach in the Fall of 2017. He will specialize in training pitchers and infielders.

Schliewe brings over 25 years of coaching expereince to UW-Platteville. A native of Horicon, Wis., he took the helm at Horicon High School in 1990 and has transformed the program into a state title contender over the last 27 years. He holds a 502-162 (.756) record at Horicon and has won 15 conference championships, 13 regional championships, and 6 sections championships. Schliewe led the the Marshmen to back-to-back WIAA state championships in 2002-03, and a state runner-up in 2001.

In 1992 Schliewe founded the Wisconsin Bandits travelling softball program where he annually trains over 120 girls to compete at the national, regional, and state levels. He has trained and coached a countless number of athletes who have continued their careers at the NCAA DI, DII, DIII and NAIA levels. One of his former Bandits' players is the Pioneers' head coach Andie Varsho, who played under Schliewe from 2009-10. In 2009, he led his Bandits 18U team to a 7th place finish at the American Softball Association National Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev.

For his contributions to the sport, Schliewe was inducted into the Hall of Fame for the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association in 2016.
