Pioneers swept by #7 UWW

April 7, 2009

After getting swept by defending NCAA III champion UW-Eau Claire in its last outing, the UW-Platteville softball team figured to get a little break in its next games, right? Ah, no. Tuesday, the Pioneers drew the defending national runners-up and lost 10-0 and 9-0 at UW-Whitewater.

The Pioneers were one-hit in each game, first by Jessica Stang, who improved to 8-1 with the five-inning game and then by Brittany LeBeau (four innings) and Dianna Frisbie.

Suzanne Gersich had three hits in the opener, then she, Lauren Cruz, Liz Yucius, and Amanda LeBeau homered in the second game.

The seventh-ranked Warhawks improved to 16-2 overall and 6-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Pioneers fell to 3-15, 0-4.

Mandy Cerqua had the Pioneers' lone hit in the first game, a third-inning single, while Chantal McReynolds' first-inning single was the lone second-contest Pioneer hit.

UWP plays host to UW-La Crosse tomorrow at 3 p.m. in another WIAC twinbill.
