April 10, 2009

UW-Oshkosh rallied past UW-Platteville twice, sweeping a WIAC softball doubleheader 7-4 and 5-3 Friday at the Oshkosh Sports Complex.

The Pioneers took a 4-0 lead in game one, on a two-run home run by Megan Pozezinski in the second and RBI singles by Chantal McReynolds and Whitney Foltz in the third. The Titans answered with two home runs in a five-run bottom of the third, as Whitney Tornow hit a three-run shot, and Ashley Steltenpohl hit a two-run HR. The Titans added single runs in the fifth and the sixth.

Tera Burr led off the second game with a single and eventually scored on a Katie Lenz base hit. The Titans tied the score in the second then added two runs apiece in the fifth and sixth. UWP's two-run rally in the seventh came up short.

The Titans improved to 11-9 overall and 6-2 in the WIAC, while the Pioneers fell to 3-19, 0-8.

Burr had three hits in the second game, while Lenz and Mandy Cerqua each had two. Both Foltz and Pozezinski had two hits in the opener, including Pozezinski's first career homer.
