Pioneers Fall to No. 20 Central
PELLA, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team (13-7) dropped two high-scoring games Sunday afternoon at No. 20 nationally ranked Central College (11-3). The Dutch held on to the lead to win 11-9 in the opening game and then pulled ahead in the sixth inning of game two, winning 13-9.

PELLA, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team (13-7) dropped two high-scoring games Sunday afternoon at No. 20 nationally ranked Central College (11-3). The Dutch held on to the lead to win 11-9 in the opening game and then pulled ahead in the sixth inning of game two, winning 13-9.
In game one, the teams were tied 1-1 until Central got hot in the second inning and jumped out to a 6-1 lead. Doubles by sophomore Allison Peters and freshman Delaney Johnson and a single down the left line by junior Melissa Dietz all batted in a run in the third inning to narrow the Dutch's lead to 6-4. Central score one run in the third and another in the fourth before three more runs scored in the fifth. Trailing 11-4, the Pioneers rallied in the sixth inning, scoring five runs, including a 3RBI home run by Dietz, but they were unable to catch the Dutch's lead at the end of seven innings.
In the second game, UW-Platteville once again had to work back from Central taking an early 5-1 lead after one inning. Both teams scored two runs in the second and one apiece in the third inning and Central scored one more in the fourth inning. The Pioneers started to gain momentum once again later in the game and this time sophomore Mia Savage doubled to left field, driving in two runs in the fifth inning. In the sixth inning, seniors Jordan Johnson, Alex Davis and junior Calli Storms all tallied an RBI, knotting the game 9-9. However, the Dutch pulled ahead in the bottom of the sixth with four more runs to win 13-9.
The Pioneers will return to action on Thursday, April 10 when they take on the University of Dubuque in their home opener. The doubleheader starts at 3 p.m.
