Pioneers Pick Up Two Run-Rule Wins on Final Day of The Spring Games
CLERMONT, FLA. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team (13-3) wrapped up its spring break trip to Florida with a pair of wins, each in five innings. The Pioneers first shut out Lawrence University (5-12) 8-0 before defeating Oberlin (2-12) 9-1.

Lawrence

CLERMONT, FLA. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team (13-3) wrapped up its spring break trip to Florida with a pair of wins, each in five innings. The Pioneers first shut out Lawrence University (5-12) 8-0 before defeating Oberlin (2-12) 9-1.
The Pioneers got on the scoreboard first in the second inning against Lawrence behind a 2-RBI single up the middle by senior Taylor Roughen. UW-Platteville doubled their two-run lead in the third inning when Roughen doubled to center field, batting in the fourth run of the day. Senior Calli Storms drove in two more runs with a 2-RBI single through the right side following Roughen and the Pioneers led 6-0 going into the bottom of the third. UW-Platteville added one more run in the fourth and another in the fifth to wrap up the game in five innings.
Junior Carlie Jo Brownlee started the day off in the circle and struck out six, walked two and allowed just one hit in 2.2 innings. Freshman Morgan Erickson (3-1) relieved Brownlee and struck out three, walked two and allowed no hits in 2.1 innings pitched.
In the second inning of game two, Oberlin got on the board with a lone run scored on a throwing error and they held on to the 1-0 lead through three and a half innings. In the bottom of the fourth, a single up the middle by senior Jordan Johnson scored pinch runner Taylor Lynch to tie the game. The Pioneers went on to take a three-run lead before the inning was over. In the fifth, sophomore Allison Peters homered to centerfield, pushing the lead to 6-1. UW-Platteville scored another run just before a triple to right field by Roughen gave the Pioneers an 8-1 advantage. The Pioneers then walked off with the win when the ninth run scored on an error by the shortstop.
Going 4-for-5 on the day, Roughen (4-1) also captured the win in the second game and struck out seven, walked one and allowed six hits and zero earned runs across five innings.
The Pioneers will return to action on Tuesday, April 1 when they travel to Augustana College for a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.
