Softball Collects Four WIAC Postseason Honors
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Three members of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team earned Honorable Mention All-WIAC honors on Wednesday in juniors Taylor Roughen and Jordan Johnson and freshman Allison Peters. Senior Danielle Trumbo was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Three members of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team earned Honorable Mention All-WIAC honors on Wednesday in juniors Taylor Roughen and Jordan Johnson and freshman Allison Peters. Senior Danielle Trumbo was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Roughen tossed the second-most innings (127.2) in the WIAC while pitching to a 1.81 earned run average. The junior posted a 14-8 record and struck out 135 batters, which was second in the conference and the second-most in a single season in Pioneers history. The Lake Mills native set a pair of UW-Platteville records for single-season shutouts (6) and strikeouts in a single game with 15 in a win against Buena Vista on March 29. Roughen also contributed at the plate, hitting .260 with nine RBI and nine extra-base hits across 96 at-bats.
Johnson led the Pioneers in several offensive categories while playing in 34 games, mostly at first base. The junior posted a slash line of .368/.407/.547 while driving in a team-high 23 runs. Her 13 extra-base hits were second on the team and her three home runs tied Peters for the team lead. The Moline, Illinois native had an 11-game hitting streak early in the season and finished with 10 multi-hit performances. Johnson had a fantastic game against Dubuque on April 11, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, six RBI, and three runs scored.
Peters, who played in all 38 games as a freshman, finished second on the team in hits (36) and runs batted in (20). Fifteen of her 36 hits went for extra bases, leading to a .496 slugging percentage which was third-best on the Pioneers. The Peshtigo native scored 15 times on the season and tied for the team lead in walks drawn at eight. She recorded multiple hits in 12 games, including a 3-for-4 performance with two RBI and two runs scored in a win over UW-River Falls on April 13.
Trumbo also played in all 38 games while finishing third on the team with a .342 batting average. The senior totaled 26 hits, three of which went for extra bases. The South Elgin, Illinois native had multiple hits in eight games, including a season-high three in a win over Dubuque on April 11.
