In the opener, both teams scored one run in the first inning with the Pioneers scoring on freshman Allison Peters' sacrifice fly to right field. UW-Eau Claire's pivotal moment fell in the third when Molly Marquardt's first of two homeruns to center field gave the Blugolds a 4-1 lead. The Pioneers narrowed the lead to 4-3 after five innings, but Eau Claire added three more runs before the end of the game.
Junior Taylor Roughen (14-6) pitched the first six innings and struck out six, walked two and allowed nine hits.
In the second game, Marquardt gave the Blugolds an early two-run lead in the first after her second home run. An RBI single up the middle by junior Jordan Johnson cut the lead in half, but another run for the visitors in the second frame extended the lead back to two runs.
In the fourth inning, UW-Platteville drew within one run again, scoring on a fielder's choice. Before the inning concluded, freshman Mia Savage snuck one through the left side which scored the tying and a go-ahead run.
The Blugolds tied the game 4-4 in the fifth and a hard-hit single to third base scored one run to give the visitors their final lead of the day.
