One inning later, freshman Mia Savage's RBI single to left field extended the lead to 3-1 and freshman Felicia Teubert batted in an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.

In game one, the Vikings scored first in the fourth inning with a 2RBI homerun. An inning later, the Pioneers cut the visitor's lead in half with a run scored on an error, but in the top of the sixth, the Vikings scored three runs and then added two more in the seventh.
Junior Taylor Roughen (14-5) pitched the first five innings of game one and struck out six, walked two and allowed three hits and three earned runs.
