PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team (21-9, 2-6 WIAC) dropped two games to No. 23 nationally ranked UW-Whitewater (21-5, 6-2 WIAC) on Tuesday afternoon at the UW-Platteville Softball Complex.
The Warhawks took the first game 10-1 in five innings while they held on to a narrow 1-0 lead in the second game to complete the sweep.
In the opener, and after an early 1-0 lead, the Warhawks pulled away with their lead in the third inning behind back-to-back RBI doubles, a RBI single up the middle and another double which scored the fourth and fifth runs of the inning.
UW-Whitewater scored two runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Pioneers offense warmed up in the fifth inning and junior Johnson put UW-Platteville on the board with a RBI double to right field, but the Pioneers were unable to extend the game to six innings.
Junior Taylor Roughen (14-4) suffered the loss and pitched the first 2.2 innings where she struck out three, walked two and allowed five hits.
In the nightcap, both pitchers put on a show in the circle while they each pitched complete games. Sophomore Carlie Jo Brownlee (5-5) tied her career-best nine strikeouts while also walking two and allowing five hits. UW-Whitewater's Rhiann Dick (3-2) caried a no-hitter all the way into the sixth inning and gave up her only hit of the night when freshman Felicia Teubert found some open turf in left field.
The Warhawks scored the lone run of the game in the fifth off a single to right field.
The Pioneers will return to action and the UW-Platteville Softball Complex on Thursday, April 25 when they host Augustana at 4 and 6 p.m.
