Pioneers sweep Viterbo
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team swept the Viterbo V-Hawks Saturday afternoon by scores of 1-0 in eight innings and 3-2 in the nightcap.

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team swept the Viterbo V-Hawks Saturday afternoon by scores of 1-0 in eight innings and 3-2 in the nightcap.
The Pioneers (17-3) and the V-Hawks (6-26) took the first game into extra innings as neither team put up a run in regulation. Freshman Felicia Teubert singled up the middle to score one run which ultimately became the game-winning run.
Junior Taylor Roughen (11-1) pitched her seventh complete game of the season, striking out 12, walking one and allowing five hits.
In the second game of the day, Viterbo took an early lead behind a 2 RBI single in the bottom of the third inning. The lead did not last long though, as freshman Allison Peters and junior Jordan Johnson tied the game with back-to-back RBI doubles in the top of the fourth. Sophomore Caitlin Giacomo drove in the go-ahead run tow batters later.
Four Pioneers took to the circle in the second game with sophomore Carlie Jo Brownlee starting the game and striking out four, walking two and allowing five hits and two runs in 3.2 innings. Sophomore Jaena Michalak captured the win and struck out two and allowed two hits in 2.0 innings.
UW-Platteville returns to action on Thursday, April 11 when they travel across the river to the University of Dubuque for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
