Pioneers run-rule Fredonia, earn split in Florida
LEESBURG, FL – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team (8-2) split Wednesday‘s games in Florida, defeating Fredonia 10-1 in five innings prior to dropping an 8-1 contest to Rochester.

LEESBURG, FL – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team (8-2) split Wednesday's games in Florida, defeating Fredonia 10-1 in five innings prior to dropping an 8-1 contest to Rochester.
In the first game against Fredonia (2-6), the Pioneers scored on an error in the first inning prior to adding seven more runs in the second. Sophomore Calli Storms singled to run in one run and it wasn't until Storms' next appearance at the plate which Fredonia could get out of the inning. Senior Kendall Drake scored the first run in the third inning and senior Payton Marvin stole home shortly after to give the Pioneers a 10-1 lead.
Junior Taylor Roughen (5-0) captured the win and pitched the first four innings, striking out four, walking one and allowing one hit.
In the second game, the bats started and stayed hot for Rochester (6-4) as they went on to out-hit UW-Platteville 11-3. Rochester scored three runs in both the first and second innings and added two more in the fifth. The Pioneers scored their only run in the fifth when Marvin reached on a fielder's choice with bases loaded and sophomore Caitlin Giacomo scored one run.
The Pioneers will return to action on Thursday, March 14 when they take on Wesleyan (Conn.) at 11:15 a.m. and Kean at 1:30 p.m. in Leesburg, FL.
