Pioneers split second day in Florida
LEESBURG, FL – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team (7-1) suffered its first loss of the season Monday at The Spring Games. The Pioneers opened the day with a 6-2 victory over Nichols before falling 2-0 to Albertus Magnus.

LEESBURG, FL – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team (7-1) suffered its first loss of the season Monday at The Spring Games. The Pioneers opened the day with a 6-2 victory over Nichols before falling 2-0 to Albertus Magnus.
Nichols (1-2) started the day by taking a one run lead in the top of the first. In the bottom of the same inning, junior Jordan Johnson singled to right field to bring in one run. Freshman Felicia Teubert and juniors Taylor Roughen and Alex Davis followed Johnson with three-straight singles to left field to jump to a 4-1 lead going into the second.
A homerun in the fourth cut the Pioneer's lead to 4-2, but sophomore Kate Davis homered in the bottom of the fourth to reclaim the three-run lead. Alex Davis drove in one more in the fifth to extend the Pioneers lead to 6-2.
Roughen (4-0) pitched her third complete game of the season, striking out seven, walking none and allowing seven hits.
In the second game, Albertus Magnus (3-1) blanked the Pioneers and emerged with the win due to a 2 RBI single to center field in the top of the fifth. The Pioneers outhit the Falcons 4-2 while Albertus Magnus committed three errors compared to UW-Platteville's single error.
Sophomore Carlie Jo Brownlee (2-1) pitched 4.2 innings, struck out five, walked four and gave up zero hits.
The Pioneers will take Tuesday off and return to action on Wednesday, March 13 when they take on Fredonia at 11:45 a.m. and Rochester at 3:45 p.m.
