Pioneers split final day of Florida trip
WINTER HAVEN, FLA. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team split its final day of the Spring Break trip to Florida. In the day’s opener, the Pioneers shutout Westminster (MO) 7-0 and later fell 3-0 to Manchester in the final game in Florida.

WINTER HAVEN, FLA. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team split its final day of the Spring Break trip to Florida. In the day's opener, the Pioneers shutout Westminster (MO) 7-0 and later fell 3-0 to Manchester in the final game in Florida.
In game one, sophomore Taylor Roughen (6-1) threw a shutout striking out nine and walking none while allowing four hits.
Senior Payton Marvin sent one over the fence in the first inning and also had one of the two stolen bases in the game, Roughen recorded the other.
Both Marvin and sophomore Jordan Johnson went 2-for-4 in the contest while Johnson and senior Amanda Stanczuk each tallied two RBI to lead the Pioneers.
In game two, Manchester took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, scoring on a passed ball. Two innings later, a run scored on an error and another unearned run off a single extended Manchester's lead to 3-0 where it would stay.
Claire Bakkestuen (3-3) started things off in the circle and struck out three and walked three with three unearned runs on five hits. Freshman Carlie Jo Brownlee releaved Bakkestuen in the fourth inning and struck out two, walked one and surrendered two hits.
In the circle for Manchester, Kaitlyn Carr (5-1) walked away with the shutout, striking out five, walking none and allowing four hits.
UW-Platteville (9-5) will return to action on Thursday, March 30 for the team's scheduled home opener against the University of Dubuque with games scheduled for 5 and 7 p.m.
