PLATTEVILLE, Wis.- The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team announced the 2022 schedule. Coming off a 17-17 season and semi-final appearance in the WIAC tournament, the Pioneers will open the season at the Mount Mary University Slugger Series in Peoria, Illinois on Thursday, March 3. The Pioneers will battle Augustana (Illinois) at 4 p.m. before facing Alverno at 6 p.m.
The Pioneers will continue the tournament on Friday, March 4 when they battle host Mount Mary University and Knox College.
The Pioneers will head to Clermont, Florida from March 12-19 for 10 games at Hancock Park where they will face teams from New Jersey, Maryland and New York.
"Being able to take a trip again is exciting for our team," third-year Head Coach Becca (Lowe) Runde said. "This trip will be the first time many of our women have had the chance to travel to Florida to play. Clermont sets up a great tournament that allows us to play teams from all over the country. It will be a great experience, not only from a team bonding experience, but to also compete at a high level and grow as individual players and as a team."
North Central (Illinois) will visit on Friday, April 1 for the Pioneer home opener. The two teams will battle twice, with first game starting at 2 p.m. UW-Whitewater will visit the softball complex on Wednesday, April 6 for a pair of WIAC contests. It is the conference opener for both schools. UW-Eau Claire will visit the UW-Platteville Softball Complex on Sunday, April 10. The Pioneers will honor the senior class when UW-Oshkosh visits on Sunday, May 1 for the final regular season games of the year.
"Overall, the schedule is going to be exciting," Runde said. "We are going to play teams we haven't played before – North Central, Mount Mary and Knox. Playing new teams in the area is always exciting because the competition in the tri-state area is always high and competitive. It is fun to get new looks at teams and still compete at a high level, plus our women have teammates and friends that play at other colleges, and it is always fun for them to compete against each other."
The Pioneers will travel to UW-Stevens Point, UW-River Falls, UW-Stout and UW-La Crosse for conference games. University of Dubuque will visit for a mid-week non-conference contest on Tuesday, April 26 with first pitch at 4 p.m.
The WIAC Conference Championship (presented by Culvers) begins on Friday, May 6.
In addition to the varsity schedule, the Pioneers will play four junior-varsity contests in 2022.
