PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – With warm temperatures finally making their way to Platteville there seemed to be an extra spring in the Pioneers' step Thursday night at the UW-Platteville Softball Complex. All twelve Pioneers who took an at-bat collected a hit and four pitchers combined to throw 14 innings of two run ball in their 6-0 and 9-2 wins over the University of Dubuque (5-21).
Ashton Hoeppner threw one of her best games of the season in a complete game shutout to start off the night for UW-Platteville (13-9). She gave up four hits, struck out six, and maybe most importantly walked only one Spartan in her eighth win of the year.
Abby Burns tossed her second gem in as many outings on the backend of the doubleheader, striking out six and giving up just four hits and one run in five and two-third innings.
Grabbing her first hit of the year two nights ago at Cornell, Kylie Ackerman picked up two more and her first RBI of the season in game one after coming on as a pinch hitter in the fifth inning. Shannon Gaul had a pair of hits herself while eight other Pioneers added a single hit.
Gaul had two more hits in game two and Rachel Martin had her second three-hit effort in three games including a two RBI double. The other Platteville hitters spread the wealth once again with eight Pioneers collecting a single hit.
UW-Platteville's games this Saturday at UW-Stevens Point are being rescheduled with a date and location to be determined.
