Bats get hot in Pioneers’ doubleheader sweep
LOVESPARK, Ill. – In two games that were originally supposed to be played in Beloit on Tuesday, the Pioneers combined to score 21 times inside Mercyhealth Sportscore for 11-0 and 10-3 wins over Beloit College (3-19).

LOVESPARK, Ill. – In two games that were originally supposed to be played in Beloit on Tuesday, the Pioneers combined to score 21 times inside Mercyhealth Sportscore for 11-0 and 10-3 wins over Beloit College (3-19).
In game one UW-Platteville (9-7) scored five of six innings, and capped off the scoring with a six run top of the sixth. The Pioneers first five runs came via one run singles from five different batters. Cayleen Ryan and Rachel Martin got UW-Platteville on the board in the first. Jessy Tanel, Rachel Bonnell, and Shannon Gaul each collected their RBI singles in the second, third, and fourth innings.
The Pioneers sent 12 to the plated in the sixth, scoring on two bases loaded walks, a Buccaneers error, a two RBI single from Rachel Bonnell, and a single from Drew Preston to push their lead to 11-0.
On the rubber, Ashton Hoeppner struck out seven Buccaneers in the first three innings, and gave up just three hits in her second complete game shutout of the season.
In game two Coach Andie Varsho used four pitchers who combined to scatter seven hits and give up just two earned runs. Michaela ward earned the start and the win, striking out two and surrendering an unearned run in three innings of work. Kate Snook, Kylie Ackerman, and Abby Burns combined to throw the final four innings.
After using small ball in game one, the Pioneers used long balls from Gaul and Martin to give themselves an early 6-1 Lead. Gaul's three run shot in the first inning was the first of her career, and Martin's three run homer in the third was her third on the year.
The Pioneers are scheduled to start their WIAC season on Sunday against UW-Eau Claire. First pitch of the doubleheader at the UW-Platteville Softball Complex is 12 p.m.
