Pioneers open league play 1-1
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team began Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with one win and one loss against University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Saturday. The Pioneers won the opener 5-1, and the Pointers won the nightcap 7-5.

PLATTEVILLE, WI—The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team began Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with one win and one loss against University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Saturday. The Pioneers won the opener 5-1, and the Pointers won the nightcap 7-5.
Rachel Bonnell scored in the second, Emily Woodford and Thianna Wegner in the third, Fallan Warnken and Crystal Rote in the sixth innings of the opener. The Pointers scored their lone run in the third inning against Jess Butzen, who went the distance on the mound and improved to 4-4 on the year.
Game two was a closer match in a seven-inning game. The Pointers scored once in third and seventh, twice in the fourth, three runs in the fifth innings. LaRissa O'Kimosh and Crystal Rote scored in the fourth, Kayla Kampmeier and Daielle Dieckhoff in the fifth, and Emily Woodford in the sixth innings.
The Pioneers, now 7-12 overall, play host to UW-La Crosse Sunday at noon.
