Pioneers open home season with 2 wins
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team opened its home schedule with two wins against Beloit College on Sunday. The Pioneers won the opener 8-0 and the nightcap 9-7.

PLATTEVILLE, Wi—The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team opened its home schedule with two wins against Beloit College on Sunday. The Pioneers won the opener 8-0 and the nightcap 9-7.
The Pioneers won the opener in a game shortened to six innings due to the eight-run rule. Emily Woodford scored in the first and third, Jessy Tanel in the third, LaRissa O'Kimosh in the fourth and fifth, Rachel Bonnell in the fifth and sixth, and Drew Preston. UW-Platteville had 13 hits, including three by Woodford and two each by Crystal Rote, Rachel Bonnel and O'Kimosh. Bonnell smacked two triples in the contest.
Jess Butzen earned the victory by throwing six shutout innings, allowing just five hits and striking out seven.
Game two was a closer match in a seven-inning game. The Pioneers and Buccaneers each got one run in the second inning. The Pioneers scored seven runs in the third inning, and Hailey Truman scored the final run in the fifth inning on a wild pitch. The Buccaneers scored four runs in third and two runs in fifth innings.
The Pioneers, 4-10 on the season, take the home field again on Tuesday, March 28 against Loras. The doubleheader begins at 4 p.m.
