Roger Williams
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team ended its spring break trip to Kissimmee, Florida with a 6-2 victory over Roger Williams and 5-1 victory over Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday.
The two wins put the Pioneers at .500 overall and 5-5 on the 2011 season.
In the 5-1 win over Rutgers-Camden, the Pioneers scored three times in the fourth. UW-Platteville was limited to five hits but capitalized on two errors for the victory. Two of the five hits came from Nathalie Schattner, who also scored a team-high two runs in the win. In the circle, Jeni Freiburger picked up the complete game win and struck out four in the process.
In the 6-2 victory over Roger Williams, UW-Platteville scored three times in the first, an additional run in the second and two more in the fifth for the win.
Schattner continued to swing a hot bat for the Pioneers with a two-for-three effort with three RBI and two runs scored. Teammate Colleen Lowe had two hits and a RBI in the win.
Senior pitcher Melissa Anderson raised her record to 3-1 and fanned four in the win.
Next, the Pioneers will host a doubleheader against on Wednesday, March 23 against Loras for its first home game of the season at 4 p.m.
