Team Stats
Muskingum
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team split its
first two games on Saturday at the Rebel Games in
Kissimmee, Florida. UW-Platteville started the day with a 6-5
come-from-behind victory over Muskingum and lost to the U.S. Coast
Guard, 5-0.
The Pioneers (2-1) rallied from a 4-3 deficit in the seventh
inning to plate three runs for the win. Following a ground out by
Ellyn Gerdt moved two Pioneers runners into scoring position,
Samantha Niemann singled to left field to put UW-Platteville ahead
by a 5-4 margin for their first lead since the top of the
fifth.
Next, the Pioneers extended its lead to 6-4 when Rice singled down
the left-field line to score Jordan Johnson.
Muskingum (1-7) built a 4-3 lead through six innings on the
strength of a two-run third and single runs in the fourth, fifth
and in the seventh. The Muskies stranded 10 runners on base and
committed four errors in the loss.
In the bottom half of the seventh, a sacrifice fly by Courtney
Allen that trimmed the Pioneers' lead to 6-5. After a ground out
moved the tying run to second, UW-Platteville pitcher Melissa
Anderson got a ground out to end the comeback effort and seal the
win.
In Saturday’s nightcap
against the U.S. Coast Guard, UW-Platteville dropped a 5-0
decision. No further information is available at this time. The
loss drops the Pioneers to a 2-2 mark as they will continue their
participation in the Rebel Games when they face Endicott and Kean
on Sunday at 9 and 11 a.m.,
respectively.
