Bio

Rion Rayfield has been a member of the UW-Platteville men's basketball staff since 2017. The 2024-25 season will mark the eighth on the Pioneer bench. Rayfield is responsible for player development, recruiting, opponent scouting, and all otehr aspects of day-to-day operations for the Pioneers.

At UW-Platteville, Rayfield has helped coach and develop one National Player of the Year, three All-Americans, 13 First Team All-WIAC selections, and three WIAC Players of the Year. In addition, the Pioneers have made the NCAA Tournament five times in the last seven seasons, have won 20 or more games five times, and claimed four regular season WIAC titles (2018, 2020, 2021, 2024) and three WIAC Tournament Champsionships (2019, 2021, 2024).

 

Prior to UW-Platteville, Rayfield spent one season at Otero Junior College, as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Rattlers. Rayfield, also spent time as Director of Basketball Operations at UW-Green Bay where he was part of the coaching staff that helped the Phoenix team capture the 2016 Horizon League Tournament Championship, which led to their first NCAA Division I Tournament appearance in 20 years. Prior to UW-Green Bay, Rayfield also spent one season at NCAA Division II Black Hills State in Spearfish, SD.

During his playing days, Rayfield attended Florida Southern College where he earned his undergraduate degree. Rayfield finished his career with the Mocs with 1,870 career points and 544 career assists. As of 2017, he holds the program’s records in all-time games played (135) and three-pointers made (364).  During his college career he helped the Mocs to four consecutive NCAA Division II Tournament appearances, was a member of three Sunshine State Conference Championship teams, and earned NCAA Division II Bulletin Honorable Mention All-American honors.
