Pioneers beat Falcons, 70-56

UW-Platteville made 29 of 32 free throws and beat UW-River Falls 70-56 before 1,115 fans in Williams Fieldhouse Saturday night.

The Pioneers led 40-26 at the half and never let the lead dip below 12 in the second period. UWP connected on all 11 of its second-half free-throw attempts, the second straight game with a perfect second-half.

LeVon Crawford led the Pioneers with 19 points, making 8-9 from the line, while Josh Langenfeld scored 11, and Sean Krause and Mark Gossens each had 10.

The Pioneers, now 10-10, 5-7 in the WIAC, out-rebounded the Falcons 34-22 and held the visitors to 38 percent from the field. UWP held the Falcons to six offensive rebounds. Both Crawford and Gossens pulled down eight rebounds, while Kyle Tetschlag came off the bench to record four points, four rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots.

Hans Hoeg led the Falcons (5-16, 4-9) with 23 points, and Ryan Zylstra added 13. UWRF went to the line 23 times, as 45 fouls were called, including 24 on the Pioneers.

The Pioneers play at UW-La Crosse Wednesday at 7 p.m., then play host to UW-Superior Saturday at 3 p.m.
