Pioneers give Combs his 100th win

December 10, 2005

UW-Platteville led from start to finish, beating UW-River Falls 58-45 and giving Coach Paul Combs his 100th career victory.

Combs is now 100-68 in seven years, including 40-23 in his third year at UW-Platteville. This year's club improved to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

As been the case in Combs's tenure, defense was the key to victory. The Pioneers held the Falcons to 33 percent from the floor, including just seven baskets in the second half when UWP expanded upon its 31-24 lead.

Charlie Lohoff led a balanced Pioneer attack with 12 points, while Mark Gossens scored 11. UWP shot 51.2 percent from the field, the seventh time in nine games the Pioneers have made more than half their shots.

Ryan Zylstra led the Falcons (1-7, 1-3) with 10 points.
