Stout, Pioneers play on again

UW-Stout outlasted UW-Platteville 78-73 in overtime, the third time in the Blue Devils' last four trips to Williams Fieldhouse that the game has required extra time.

The Blue Devils scored 10 of their 13 overtime points from the free throw line, including one by Greg Chaisson that proved to be the tiebreaker with 54 seconds left. Chaisson's free throw made the count 72-71.

Terry Farmer made one of two, and Adam Chandler hit both of his shots for a 75-71 lead. The Pioneers' Mike Jamerson hit a pullup jumper with 18 seconds remaining, slicing the deficit to 75-73, but Ryan Stangl made two free throws with 14 seconds remaining, and Chander made one of two with six ticks left to salt the game away.

UW-Stout, ranked 21st in the D3hoops.com poll, improved to 13-4 overall and 6-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Pioneers fell to 9-8, 4-5.

The Blue Devils, who shot 67 percent in the second half to overcome a 34-22 halftime deficit, placed five players in double figures. Stangl made all five of his three-point attempts and finished with a game-high 21 points. Stangl's final three-point gave Stout a 65-63 lead with 1:04 remaining.

The Pioneers' LeVon Crawford scored 22 points, including the game-tying basket with 52 seconds remaining in regulation. Jeff Skemp added 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Jamerson and Sean Krause each scored 11.
