Pioneers fall to Blue Devils

UW-Stout held off UW-Platteville 56-50 in a defensive battle Saturday in Menomonie.
The Blue Devils improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Pioneers fell to 4-3, 0-1.
UW-Stout held the Pioneers to 28 percent from the floor in the first half while building a 28-19 halftime lead. The Pioneers came within three points twice, at 41-38 and 43-40, in the second half, but could not overcome the deficit. Ryan Stangel made two free throws with 3:40 to play, giving Stout a 45-40 lead. Stangel made four more late in the game to seal the outcome.
The Pioneers' Mike Jamerson led all scorers with 19 points, while LeVon Crawford added 13. Stangel, thanks to a 10-10 performance from the line, led the Blue Devils with 17 points.
UW-Platteville plays its last home game of 2005 when the Pioneers play host to UW-La Crosse Wednesday at 7:45 p.m. or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women's 5:45 p.m. contest. One ticket is good for both games.
