Pioneers come up three points short

Concordia-Austin held off UW-Platteville 88-85 Saturday afternoon as the Pioneers concluded their Texas trip with a 1-1 record.

Mike Jamerson's three-point attempt missed at the buzzer, allowing the Tornadoes to pull off the upset. With its full-court pressure and fast-paced offense, Concordia-Austin led by as many as 15 in the first half, settling for a 48-39 halftime advantage. UWP falls to 6-5 overall, while Concordia-Austin improved to 3-5.

Senior LeVon Crawford scored a career-high 26 points, and added 14 rebounds, five steals and four assists to lead the Pioneers. Jeff Skemp added 15 points, while Mark Gossens and Josh Langenfeld each scored 12, and Charlie Lohoff added 10.

The Tornadoes, who shot 56 percent in the first half, were led by Joel McDonald with 23 points, Valentino Maxwell with 22 and George Freeman with 21.

The Pioneers return to action and Williams Fieldhouse Wednesday by facing preseason conference favorite UW-Oshkosh at 7 p.m. Both teams are 1-2 in WIAC play, making Wednesday's early-season showdown a key league matchup.
